Diabetes and Its Types
Diabetes also known as diabetes mellitus describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose level either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body’s cells do not respond properly to insulin, or sometimes both. Patients with high blood sugar will typically experience frequent urination known as polyuria and they will also become increasingly thirsty and hungry. There are generally three types of diabetes. In type 1diabetes the body of the patient does not produce insulin. Approximately 10% of all the diabetes cases are type 1. In type 2 diabetes the body does not produce enough insulin for proper function. 90% of all cases of diabetes worldwide are of this type. The other types are known as Gestational Diabetes and this type affects females only during pregnancy.
