GERD-Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a digestive disorder that affects the lower esophageal sphincter which is the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach. Many people, including pregnant women, suffer from what is commonly known as heartburn or acid indigestion which is caused by GERD. In most cases, this disease can be relieved through diet and lifestyle changes; however, some people may require medication or surgery.
In normal digestion, the lower esophageal sphincter opens to allow food to pass into the stomach and closes to prevent food and acidic stomach juices from flowing back into the esophagus.Gastroesophageal reflux occurs when this sphincter is weak or relaxes inappropriately, allowing the stomach’s contents to flow up into the esophagus. Common medicines for heartburn and indigestion provide temporary relief. However, if it is a serious case then one should go to Rungta Hospital for Gastroenterology treatment in Jaipur, where with corrective measures, one can get better solutions to this disease and lead a better lifestyle.
